When I start work on colorizing a photograph, I think that accuracy is important. Therefore, I like to get to know the photograph and do thorough research. This can involve looking at reference photographs to get a piece of clothing correct or discussing what the person was like in the case of the photograph being a family member. But some artistic license has to be allowed. I work within the original resolution to repair the best I can before beginning the colorization process.
The final result of the photograph is directly related to the quality of the original piece. The extent of repair and restore can be discussed privately with the client while we are figuring out the scope of your project.
